LEDs have a much higher luminous efficiency, providing more light while using less power. They also produce very little heat, which could otherwise affect the optical components an electronic stability. LEDs are available in a wide array of wavelengths, whereas tungsten lamps are supposed to be white light (all wavelengths of visible light) but actually have a poor blue/violet light output.

High Quality Narrow Band Interference Filters

The narrow band interference filter not only ensure greater wavelength accuracy (± 1 nm) but are extremely efficient. The filters used allow up to 95% of the light from the LED to be transmitted as compared to other filters that are only 75% efficient. The higher efficiency allows for a brighter, stronger light source. The end result is higher measurement stability and less wavelength error.

Reference Detector for a Stable Light Source

A beam splitter is used as part of the internal reference system of the HI83314 photometer. The reference detector compensates for any drift due to power fluctuations or ambient temperature changes. Now you can rely on a stable source of light between your blank (zero) measurement and sample measurement.

Large Cuvette Size

The sample cell of the HI83314 fits a round, glass cuvette with a 25 mm path length. Along with the advanced optical components, the larger size of the cuvette greatly reduces errors in rotation from the indexing mark of the cuvettes. The relatively long path length of the sample cuvette allows the light to pass through more of the sample solution, ensuring accurate measurements even in low absorbance samples.

Focusing Lens for Greater Light Yield

Adding a focusing lens to the optical path allows for the collection of all of the light that exits the cuvette and focusing the light on the silicon photo detector. This novel approach to photometric measurements cancels the errors from imperfections and scratches present in the glass cuvette eliminating the need to index the cuvette.

Specifications

SKU

HI83314-01

Name

Wastewater Multiparameter (with COD) Benchtop Photometer and pH meter - HI83314

pH Range

Photometer: 6.5 to 8.5 pH
pH electrode: -2.00 to 16.00 pH

pH Resolution

Photometer: 0.1 pH
pH electrode: 0.01 pH

pH Accuracy

Photometer: ±0.1 pH
pH electrode: ±0.01 pH

pH Calibration

Automatic one or two point calibration with one set of standard buffers available (4.01, 6.86, 7.01, 9.18, 10.01)

pH Temperature Compensation

Automatic (-5.0 to 100.0 ℃; These high quality reagents follow the mercury-free dichromate method for determination of COD. In this method, a heated digestion is required to oxidize organic matter in the sample. During the digestion, hexavalent chromium in the reagent is reduced to trivalent chromium. The amount of reduced chromium is then measured colorimetrically. The intensity of color is determined by a compatible photometer and the COD concentration is displayed in mg/L (ppm) O2. These reagents are designed to be used with samples that have an expected range of 0 to 150 mg/L (ppm) O2.

Hanna vials contain approximately 3 mL of pre-dosed reagent so the user simply needs to add a small quantity of the sample. With pre-dosed vials, test preparation time is dramatically reduced and there is no time-consuming reagent preparation procedure or glassware cleaning. The vials and caps of the COD reagents have been designed to avoid accidental reagent spills. Due to the pre-dosed reagents, the amount of chemicals and handling time is also minimized.

Comparison of Methods

EPA - The EPA approved method 410.4 for COD determination requires the use of mercuric sulfate (HgSO4). Mercuric sulfate is present in the EPA reagent vials to mitigate the interference of chloride in the measurement sample. This is a common requirement for wastewater treatment plants and food manufacturing facilities which tend to have higher concentrations of chloride present in their effluent. When using reagents that follow the EPA method, it is important to treat used vials as hazardous waste, as mercury waste requires recycling.

Dichromate - The dichromate method is adapted from the standard EPA and ISO methods for determination of COD, which are approved to measure COD concentrations ranging up to 1500 mg/L O2. For samples with expected concentrations in the high range of 0 to 15000 mg/L O2, the dichromate reagents can be used for accurate COD determination. It is important to treat used vials as hazardous waste, as mercury waste requires recycling.

Mercury-free - For those who do not wish to handle mercury reagents, our "green, " mercury-free reagents are available for COD determination. These high quality reagents follow follow an adaptation of the dichromate method for COD determination. These high quality reagents follow the mercury-free dichromate method for determination of COD.

These high quality reagents follow the ISO approved method 15705 for determination of COD.

These high quality reagents follow the ISO approved method 15705. Containing similar chemical reagents as the EPA method, it is important to treat used ISO vials as hazardous waste, as mercury waste requires recycling.

<colgroup> <col width="106"> <col width="100"> <col width="141"> <col width="109"> <col width="112"> <col width="125">
</colgroup>

Method

Parameter

Range (as O2)

Resolution

Accuracy

Reagent Code

EPA

COD LR

0 to 150 mg/L

1 mg/L

±5 mg/L ±5% of reading

HI94754A-25

COD MR

0 to 1500 mg/L

1 mg/L

±15 mg/L ±4% of reading

HI94754B-25

Dichromate

COD HR

0 to 15000 mg/L

10 mg/L

±150 mg/L ±3% of reading

HI94754C-25

Mercury-free

COD LR

0 to 150 mg/L

1 mg/L

±5 mg/L ±5% of reading

HI94754D-25

COD MR

0 to 1500 mg/L

1 mg/L

±15 mg/L ±4% of reading

HI94754E-25

ISO

COD LR

0 to 150 mg/L

1 mg/L

±5 mg/L ±5% of reading

HI94754F-25

COD MR

0 to 1500 mg/L

1 mg/L

±15 mg/L ±4% of reading

HI94754G-25

Specifications

SKU

HI94754F-25

Name

HI94754F-25 COD Low Range Reagent Vials with Barcode, ISO Method (25 tests)

Manuals

HI94754F-25 COD Low Range Reagent Vials with Barcode, ISO Method (25 tests)

The meter uses an exclusive positive-locking system to ensure that the vials are placed into the holder in the same position every time.

With the CAL Check™ functionality, users are able to validate instrument performance at any time. Medium Range Reagent Vials, EPA Method (25 tests) - HI93754B-25

The HI93754B-25 COD kit contains 25 ready-to-use vials containing pre-measured reagents. These high quality reagents follow the EPA approved method 410.4.

EPA- The EPA approved method 410.4 for COD determination requires the use of mercuric sulfate (HgSO4).

Mercury-free - For those who do not wish to handle mercury reagents, our “green,” mercury-free reagents are available for COD determination. These reagents are more sensitive to chloride interferences, as mercuric sulfate is not present. While the mercury-free reagents are easier to dispose of, they may be unacceptable for reporting purposes.

ISO- The ISO approved method 15705 for COD determination also requires the use of mercuric sulfate (HgSO4) to reduce the interference of chloride. Containing similar chemical reagents as the EPA method, it is important to treat used ISO vials as hazardous waste, as mercury waste requires recycling.

Method

Parameter

Range (as O2)

Resolution

Accuracy

Reagent COD

EPA

COD LR
COD MR

0 to 150 mg/L
0 to 1500 mg/L

1 mg/L
1 mg/L

±5 mg/L ±5% of reading
±15 mg/L ±4% of reading

HI93754A-25
HI93754B-25

Dichromate

COD HR

0 to 15000 mg/L

10 mg/L

±150 mg/L ±3% of reading

HI93754C-25

Mercury-free

COD LR
COD MR

0 to 150 mg/L
0 to 1500 mg/L

1 mg/L
1 mg/L

±5 mg/L ±5% of reading
±15 mg/L ±4% of reading

HI93754D-25
HI93754E-25

ISO

COD LR
COD M

0 to 150 mg/L
0 to 1500 mg/L

1 mg/L
1 mg/L

±5 mg/L ±5% of reading
±15 mg/L ±4% of reading

HI93754F-25
HI93754G-25

Handling & Disposal Guide

This product contains POTASSIUM DICHROMATE.
