HI7014

The Hanna Free Chlorine Checker® Handheld Colorimeter (HC) bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits have limited accuracy and resolution since they rely upon the human eye to discern differences in color. Professional instrumentation incorporates a light source at a specific wavelength and a light-sensing detector to precisely determine absorbance and ion concentration. The Pool Line Free Chlorine Checker® HC uses a fixed wavelength LED and silicon photo detector to provide the accuracy of professional instrumentation at the affordable price of a chemical test kit.

Precise measurements with no guessing of color
Laboratory measurements at a fraction of the cost
Simple, intuitive operation

Chlorine is a strong oxidizing agent that is used to keep bodies of water safe from bacterial contamination. Free Chlorine in a swimming pool is usually kept between 1 and 3 ppm (mg/L).

Combined chlorine is the quantity of chlorine that has combined with nitrogen containing compounds. It is much less effective as a disinfectant than free chlorine. Total chlorine is a measurement of both combined chlorine and free chlorine. Ideally there is a balance between free and total chlorine which means that the combined chlorine levels are near zero. The presence of chloramines is undesirable because of the distinctive “swimming pool smell” as well as irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes caused by combined chlorines like dichloramines.

HI7014 Pool Line Checker® Handheld Colorimeter is designed for the measurement of free chlorine in swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas. The contoured style of the Checker fits in your palm and pocket perfectly and the large LCD is easy to read. The auto shut-off feature assures the battery life will not be drained if you forget to turn it off.

To perform a measurement the instrument a water sample is placed into a cuvette and the meter is zeroed. Next, a reagent is added that will react with free chlorine to produce a pink color. Last, place the vial into the Checker, press the button and read the results. It’s that easy.
