HI7214 Iron Checker Handheld High Range Colorimeter (HC) bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits have limited accuracy and resolution since they rely upon the human eye to discern differences in color. Professional instrumentation incorporates a light source at a specific wavelength and a light-sensing detector to precisely determine absorbance and ion concentration. The Pool Line Iron Checker HC uses a fixed wavelength LED and silicon photo detector to provide the accuracy of professional instrumentation at the affordable price of a chemical test kit.

Precise measurements with no guessing of color
Laboratory measurements at a fraction of the cost
Simple, intuitive operation

How to use Hanna Checker Handheld Colorimeter

Many water sources can contain iron. The exact concentration will depend on geographic region and whether the water is from a lake, river, or groundwater. Groundwater will typically have the highest since minerals are picked up as rain percolates through the soil to the aquifers below. Iron in swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs present different problems. One problem is staining. Iron will be introduced in a reduced state and as it is exposed to air or other oxidizers, such has chlorine or bromine, the iron will be oxidized causing rust stains. The reaction of iron with oxidizers will create an increase demand for the oxidizers required to maintain a consistent disinfection level. A high demand in chorine could indicate an iron issue in which the water should either be pre-treated before adding to the body of water or treated by filtering it out.

HI7214 Pool Line Checker Handheld Colorimeter is designed for the measurement of iron in swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas within a 0.00 to 5.00 ppm (mg/L) range. The contoured style of these Checkers fit in your palm and pocket perfectly and the large LCD is easy to read. The auto shut-off feature assures the battery life will not be drained if you forget to turn it off.

To perform a measurement the instrument a water sample is placed into a cuvette and the meter is zeroed. Next, a reagent is added that will react with iron to produce an orange color. Last, place the vial into the Checker, press the button and read the results. It’s that easy.
